Havana rewards anyone bold enough to get off the sidewalk. Trade the crowded sightseeing buses for two wheels and the city opens up: the sea breeze along the Malecón at sunset, the salt air past Castillo del Morro, the mosaic walls of Fusterlandia catching the afternoon light. You can rent a motorcycle in Havana on our website and set your own pace through a city built for exactly this kind of exploring.
Havana's old core is dense and its best sights are spread wide, from the beaches east of town to the hills across the bay, so a motorcycle beats walking or waiting on taxis for stitching a whole day together. Fuel and spare parts can be scarce here, which is exactly why a small, efficient bike makes more sense than a car: it slips through mixed pavement and light traffic, sips less fuel, and still gets you everywhere worth going, from the Malecón to a full day trip out toward Viñales.
Petrol motorcycle rental to tourists is uncommon in Cuba, and most offerings come as guided tours or classic-bike experiences, so requirements are set by each operator rather than one national rule. Expect to show a valid motorcycle licence and be prepared for a minimum age in the low twenties. A deposit is normally required, in cash or blocked on a non-US-issued card, with the exact amount varying by operator and machine. An International Driving Permit isn't formally required, but it's worth carrying alongside your national licence as a precaution.
Prices move with the season and the machine. Expect roughly 3,000–3,500 CUP per day in low season, climbing to about 4,500–6,000 CUP per day during high season, with larger or newer motorcycles running 7,000 CUP or more per day.
December to March is Havana's dry, high season, with warm days and the least rain — also the priciest stretch, along with a smaller July–August peak. September and October are quietest and cheapest, though they fall in hurricane season, when heavy rain and road closures are more likely. Late May into June is also softer on price. Book a few weeks ahead for the winter months; low season leaves more room to decide closer to your trip.
Cuba drives on the right, with overtaking on the left. Roads are shared with horse carts, bicycles and pedestrians, so real-world speeds stay well below posted limits of around 50 km/h in town and up to 100 km/h on the autopista. Helmets are compulsory and enforced in the city, and rental agencies typically supply one with the bike. Treat drink-driving as a strict zero: penalties are severe, and checkpoints on intercity roads routinely check your passport, licence and rental contract. Refuel whenever you find a CUPET or Oro Negro station, since supply can be patchy, and avoid riding after dark outside the city, where roads are often unlit and unfenced animals are common.
