Skip the taxi queue and the long walk along Abu Dhabi's wide boulevards — a motorcycle is how you actually feel this city. One minute you're weaving past the gleaming domes of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the next you're cruising the Corniche with the Gulf on one side and the skyline glowing on the other. Abu Dhabi rewards riders who go looking, and a bike gets you to the places a bus tour never will.

This is a city built for two wheels. The roads are wide, well-paved and laid out on a logical grid, so navigation is easy even if you've never been here before. Long causeways link the mainland to Saadiyat, Yas and Al Reem islands, and a motorcycle lets you cross them in minutes instead of sitting in the queue of cars that clogs the bridges at rush hour. Rent a scooter in Abu Dhabi for a relaxed morning around downtown, or take a bigger bike out toward Al Ain, where the mountain road up Jebel Hafeet delivers some of the best hairpin riding in the region.

Top 10 things to see in Abu Dhabi by motorcycle

  1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — the city's iconic landmark, best reached early morning before the heat and the crowds build.
  2. Corniche Abu Dhabi — a long waterfront boulevard, flat and easy for a scenic evening ride along the Gulf.
  3. Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Island — the F1 track, with Ferrari World, Yas Mall and Yas Beach nearby, makes for a natural loop.
  4. Qasr Al Watan — the grand presidential palace complex near the mosque, worth combining into the same ride.
  5. Emirates Palace — a landmark hotel and gardens on the way between downtown and the Corniche.
  6. Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island — the museum plus Saadiyat's public beach, a short causeway ride from downtown.
  7. Jebel Hafeet, Al Ain — the UAE's best mountain road, sweeping hairpins climbing to a summit viewpoint and a classic day-trip ride.
  8. Eastern Mangroves / Mangrove National Park — a quiet coastal road past mangrove boardwalks, a cooler detour off the main Corniche route.
  9. Al Maryah Island — a modern waterfront district with a compact loop past marinas and skyline views.
  10. Sheikh Zayed Bridge — the striking Zaha Hadid-designed crossing, a scenic gateway ride onto and off the island.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Abu Dhabi?

You'll need a motorcycle-category licence — either a UAE licence or your home licence with motorcycle entitlement, plus an International Driving Permit depending on your nationality. Rental companies usually also want to see some riding experience before handing over the keys. Most set a minimum age of 21, higher for the larger bikes, and will ask for a deposit or a credit-card pre-authorisation along with a passport copy. Any traffic fines or Salik toll charges are billed back to you after you return the vehicle.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Abu Dhabi?

A standard scooter or small-displacement bike runs roughly 100–130 AED per day in low season and 180–250 AED per day in high season. If you want something bigger, large-displacement and premium touring motorcycles cost roughly 350–600+ AED per day year-round.

  • Prices climb from December to February, when the weather cools and tourist demand peaks.
  • They drop from June to August, when extreme heat keeps most riders off the road.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Abu Dhabi?

High season runs November to March, with December to February the busiest and priciest stretch — book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season runs June to September, when daytime temperatures push past 45°C and demand, along with prices, falls. If your dates line up with Ramadan, note that it shifts about 11 days earlier each year and can affect tour schedules and traffic around iftar.

Local traffic rules in Abu Dhabi

Traffic drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for riders and passengers on every motorcycle. Speed limits generally run 40–60 km/h in residential areas, 60–80 km/h on urban roads and 100–140 km/h on highways, and Abu Dhabi's speed cameras apply zero tolerance for going over. Alcohol and riding don't mix here at all — the UAE has a zero-tolerance policy, and any measurable amount in your system while riding is a criminal offence. Ride with your headlight on, keep water with you in summer, and watch for wind-blown sand on the road surface.
