Dahab has a way of slowing you down, and a bicycle fits that rhythm perfectly. Pedal north along the coast road and the water turns from turquoise to deep blue right where it drops into the Blue Hole — one of the most photographed dive sites on the planet, and an easy ride from almost any guesthouse in town. Head the other way and you'll roll past the Laguna, where kites snap overhead and the shallow water barely reaches your knees. Between rides, the palm-lined promenade in Assalah is made for coasting past cafés with your feet half off the pedals. Unlike Sharm or Hurghada, Dahab was never built for cars. It's a strip of low, sandy streets hugging a few kilometers of coastline, with speed bumps instead of traffic lights and barely a set of shoulders wide enough for a taxi to overtake. Walking gets you around town, but it won't get you to the reefs and desert tracks that make Dahab worth visiting in the first place — a bicycle will, without the cost or hassle of a car, and without the exhaust fumes that would spoil the point of being here.
Ready to see it all on two wheels? A bicycle rental in Dahab is the easiest way to link these spots together at your own pace.
Renting a bicycle is refreshingly simple: no licence, no minimum age and no International Driving Permit needed. Most shops will ask for a small deposit, and it's worth offering cash or a photocopy of your passport rather than the document itself, since you'll want your ID on you at any checkpoint along the coast.
Expect to pay around 150–250 EGP per day in low season and 300–500 EGP per day in high season, with a newer or better-maintained mountain bike closer to 400–700 EGP per day.
High season runs October to April, peaking December to February — book a few days ahead if you're arriving over the New Year or in peak winter. Low season, June to August, brings lower prices but serious midday heat, so an early-morning or late-afternoon ride is far more comfortable than a comparable summer resort further north.
Egypt drives on the right, and while Dahab's back streets are gentle, the coast road sees the occasional scooter or pickup moving faster than you'd expect. A helmet is legally required for motorised two-wheelers and simply good sense on a bicycle too, especially past the town's paved center where surfaces turn to gravel and sand. Speed limits sit around 60 km/h in town, so you're rarely sharing the road with anything moving fast. Alcohol and any kind of driving are treated as zero tolerance here, and it's best to be back before dark — unlit roads and unmarked bumps are a real hazard once the sun drops.
