Cape Town rewards anyone willing to cover ground under their own power. Coast the flat promenade at the V&A Waterfront with Table Mountain rising across the harbour, then keep going along the Sea Point Promenade as the Atlantic opens up beside you. Further round the coast, Camps Bay lays out white sand against the jagged Twelve Apostles, and from there the road climbs into some of the most photographed cycling terrain on the planet. This is a city built for two wheels, and the best way in is still to rent a bike in Cape Town and ride it yourself.
The trouble with Cape Town is that everything worth seeing is spread along a hilly, compact peninsula, and the traffic between the city bowl and the southern suburbs can be slow and parking near beaches or viewpoints is scarce to nonexistent. A bike closes that gap: quicker than walking, freer than a bus, and able to pull over the moment a view demands it. The distances between Camps Bay, Hout Bay and Chapman's Peak sit right in the sweet spot between a car and your own feet — and with an e-bike for the climbs, the hills stop being a reason to say no.
Good news for cyclists: no licence and no minimum age apply to a regular bicycle, so this is one of the simplest vehicles to arrange on arrival. Operators will normally still ask for a deposit, usually held on a credit card in your name, as security for the bike. No international driving permit is needed either — that requirement only comes into play if you're after a scooter or motorcycle instead.
A standard city or hybrid bike runs ZAR 60–90 per day in low season and ZAR 100–160 per day in high season. If you'd rather let the motor handle Chapman's Peak, an e-bike or premium hybrid costs ZAR 180–320 per day.
High season runs December through January, plus the Easter period, when coastal demand and prices both peak. Low season falls between May and August, when Cape Town's winter rains keep visitor numbers and rates down. If your trip lines up with March–May or September–November, you'll catch milder weather and calmer roads without paying peak-season rates — book a little ahead either way, since the best bikes go first once the good weather is confirmed.
South Africa drives on the left, so keep to that side and pass on the right. Helmets aren't legally required for cyclists, though wearing one on descents like Chapman's Peak is simple common sense. Urban speed limits sit at 60 km/h, rising to 100 km/h on rural roads and 120 km/h on freeways — figures that matter mainly for the cars and minibuses sharing the road with you. The blood alcohol limit for drivers is 0.05 g/100 ml, and roadblocks are common, so if wine tasting is on the Constantia route, plan to ride there sober and save the tasting for later.
On our website you can rent the following types of bicycles: classic bikes, tandems, road bikes, carbon, cyclocross, touring, trekking, hybrid, mountain bikes (MTB), cruisers, comfort, city, commuter, urban, Dutch bikes, lady, bike for kids, folding, tricycles with three wheels, bikes with basket, with gears, with suspension, with rear rack, fat-tire bikes, electric bicycles.

Some include simple loss or damage protection in the price, while others cover it through your deposit; always check the exact terms on the booking page before you confirm.
When you make a reservation of a bicycle you also can order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, GPS navigation, clip pedals, side cases, rear rack, basket, light, gloves, speedometer, individual guide or tour, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to the address of your choice.
