Picture rolling out of Lagos's old town in the morning light, the walls of the marina at your back, and pedalling south along the coast road until the ochre cliffs of Ponta da Piedade open up in front of you. This is a place built for two wheels: the cliffs, sea caves and hidden coves along this stretch of the Algarve reward anyone who can get off the main road, and a bicycle lets you do exactly that — stopping at a viewpoint above Praia Dona Ana whenever you feel like it, or freewheeling down to Praia do Camilo for a swim.
The old town itself is compact, pedestrian and a little hilly, which makes it better explored on foot, but the coastline on either side is a different story. East of the marina, Meia Praia gives you several flat kilometres of sand-backed riding, while the dedicated Ecovia do Litoral cycle path threads west toward Luz, keeping you off busy roads for most of the way. For anyone planning a longer day out toward Sagres, an e-bike takes the sting out of the hills and the distance, turning a serious ride into an easy one.
No licence is required to rent a bicycle in Lagos, including standard pedal-assist e-bikes — anyone can ride one, and no International Driving Permit is needed either. Rental companies generally ask for a valid ID and a small deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount depending on the operator and the bike model. Children can ride too, though most shops set their own minimum age for renting independently.
A standard city or beach bike runs from EUR 3 to EUR 6 per day in low season, rising to EUR 10–20 per day in high season. If you'd rather tackle the hills toward Sagres without breaking a sweat, e-bikes are typically EUR 15–25 per day, climbing to EUR 25–35 per day at the height of summer.
High season runs from June to September, peaking in July and August, when the Algarve gets busy and bikes can sell out — booking a few days ahead is worth it if you're travelling then. Low season, from November to March, brings the cheapest prices, though the coast stays pleasant enough to ride most of the year. If you want warm, dry weather without the crowds or the peak prices, April to June and September to October are the sweet spot.
Portugal drives on the right, so keep that in mind if you're used to the opposite side of the road. Helmets are compulsory for cyclists under 16, though we'd recommend one for riders of any age on faster descents. Speed limits within town are 50 km/h, so bikes fit comfortably into the flow of local traffic, and the blood alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5 g/l — worth remembering if you're combining a rental with an evening out. Riding outside built-up areas at night calls for lights and a reflective vest, and drivers overtaking a cyclist must leave at least 1.5 m of space, which makes the coast roads around Lagos comfortably safe for exploring by bike.
On our website you can rent the following types of bicycles: classic bikes, tandems, road bikes, carbon, cyclocross, touring, trekking, hybrid, mountain bikes (MTB), cruisers, comfort, city, commuter, urban, Dutch bikes, lady, bike for kids, folding, tricycles with three wheels, bikes with basket, with gears, with suspension, with rear rack, fat-tire bikes, electric bicycles.

Bicycle rentals typically come with basic cover for third-party damage, but theft and damage terms vary from one provider to another. Some include simple loss or damage protection in the price, while others cover it through your deposit; always check the exact terms on the booking page before you confirm.
When you make a reservation of a bicycle you also can order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, GPS navigation, clip pedals, side cases, rear rack, basket, light, gloves, speedometer, individual guide or tour, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to the address of your choice.
Most of our local bicycle rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-kept bike, lock, basket and friendly service.
