Picture swapping the tarmac for open sand: dunes rolling out ahead of you, the Atlantic on one side, nothing but track on the other. That's a typical afternoon when you rent a quad bike in Boa Vista. Head out from Sal Rei and within the hour you can be tearing across the Deserto de Viana, or bouncing along the shoreline toward Praia de Santa Mónica, one of the wildest, least crowded beaches in Cape Verde. Few islands reward this kind of exploring quite like Boa Vista does.
Boa Vista simply wasn't built with cars or scooters in mind. Once you leave Sal Rei, the roads give way to sand tracks, dry riverbeds and dune fields that a regular rental vehicle would get stuck in within minutes. A quad handles all of it without fuss, and because the island is barely 30km across, you don't need days to see it — a half-day or full-day loop from town is enough to string together the desert, the ghost villages and the best beaches. Quad bike rental in Boa Vista is really the only sensible way to reach these places yourself, rather than watching them go by from a tour bus window.
You'll need a valid driving licence from home — an International Driving Permit isn't required. Most operators set the minimum age around 21 for quads, sometimes with a minimum period of holding your licence, so check this when booking. Expect to leave a deposit, usually in cash or as a card pre-authorisation; some agencies also ask to hold your passport, though a copy plus a slightly higher deposit is often accepted instead.
In low season, day rates run roughly 5,500–6,500 CVE. In high season that climbs to around 8,000–11,000 CVE, and larger twin-seat or higher-cc quads can reach 12,000–16,000 CVE per day.
High season runs November to March, with a second bump in July and August; low season falls in September and October. If you're after the best rates, aim for the shoulder months of May–June or September–October. For the busier December–January and Easter windows, book ahead — both demand and prices rise fast.
Cape Verde drives on the right, and helmets are mandatory for every rider — check the fit and condition of yours before setting off. Built-up areas are generally limited to 50 km/h; outside town, the sandy, rutted terrain itself keeps speeds naturally low. Drink-driving is enforced with roadside checks, so treat zero alcohol as the safe rule. Night riding outside Sal Rei is best avoided, as roads are unlit and shared with wandering goats and dogs.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
