Aruba is barely 30 kilometres from tip to tip, which makes it one of those rare destinations where a scooter turns out to be the smartest way to see everything rather than just the fun way. Pick one up in the morning and you could be watching the sunrise crowd at Eagle Beach, weaving past the resort towers along Palm Beach by lunch, and catching the wind off the California Lighthouse before dinner — all without ever waiting on a taxi or a tour bus schedule. That's the real appeal of a scooter rental in Aruba: the island rewards spontaneity, and a scooter is built for exactly that.

Outside Oranjestad and the Palm Beach strip, traffic thins out fast and the roads settle into easy, breezy stretches that suit two wheels far better than four. Distances between the main sights are short, the pavement is generally in good shape, and a scooter lets you pull over the moment a coastal view or a quiet cove catches your eye — something a coach tour simply can't do. The rougher, cactus-studded trails deep in the island's interior are better left to a dirt bike or ATV, but for the beaches, the capital and the northern coast road, a scooter is genuinely the right tool for the job.

Top 10 things to see in Aruba by scooter

  1. Eagle Beach — the island's signature stretch of sand, framed by its famous fofoti trees and only minutes from the Oranjestad hotels.
  2. Palm Beach — the main resort beach, with easy scooter access right along L.G. Smith Boulevard.
  3. California Lighthouse — a northern-tip viewpoint over the coastline, and one of the best sunset stops on the island.
  4. Arikok National Park — rugged interior scenery of cactus and dirt trails, with the Conchi natural pool tucked inside.
  5. Baby Beach — a calm, shallow lagoon near San Nicolas, a longer but worthwhile ride to the southeast tip.
  6. Natural Bridge area — a striking rock formation on the wild north coast and a classic stop on any scooter loop.
  7. San Nicolas — Aruba's "second city," known for its street art murals and a welcome change of pace from the resorts.
  8. Alto Vista Chapel — a small hilltop chapel reached by a quiet, winding road along the north coast.
  9. Oranjestad — the Dutch colonial-style capital, easy to explore on a scooter and good for an afternoon of shopping.
  10. Andicuri Beach — a secluded cove on the untamed east coast, reached via an unpaved road inside Arikok park.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Aruba?

You'll need a valid category AM licence, which is included with most car or motorcycle licences — an International Driving Permit is not required if your home licence is in the Latin alphabet. The minimum age is 16, though most rental companies on the island set their own higher minimum, often 18 or 21. Expect to leave a deposit, either a card pre-authorisation or cash, plus a passport or ID for verification.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Aruba?

Prices run from around 5-8 EUR per day in low season up to 10-15 EUR per day in high season, with premium models reaching 18-25 EUR per day.

  • Rates climb from December through April, peaking around Carnival.
  • They ease off from May to November, with September and October the cheapest months to book.

When to book a rental scooter in Aruba?

High season runs December to April, when demand and prices both peak, so booking a few weeks ahead is wise if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from May to November, with September and October offering the lowest prices and the easiest availability — a great window if your travel dates are flexible.

Local traffic rules in Aruba

Aruba follows the Dutch system it's tied to: driving is on the right, and helmets are mandatory for all scooter and moped riders. Speed limits stay low across the island, typically 50 km/h in built-up areas and up to 80 km/h on the open road outside them, so there's rarely any need to push a scooter to its limits. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, so it's best to save the rum punch for after you've parked. Headlights should stay on at all times while riding, day or night.

Most of our scooter rentals in Aruba come from operators with years of local experience, offering a well-kept vehicle, a helmet and friendly service from the moment you pick up the keys.
